Living with Epilepsy. Let’s talk about it.

Good Morning!!

Today I would like to share a personal story. When I was 16 years old, my brother and I were playing whiffle ball in the back yard. It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect for late Spring in CT. I was feeling fine, then our family dog “Princess” a German Shepard mix was overly sensitive to me the next few minutes that I will always remember. I heard what sounded like airplane propellor and also smelled a strong scent of orange this was my (AURA). The rest I do not recall, except for my dog “Princess” was by my side the entire time licking my face, my brave young brother ran to get help. Princess stayed by my side the entire day. Later in life I had discovered that “Seizure Dogs” are a special k-9 alarm system to help those of us who have Epilepsy and can be a pre-warning system (barking or otherwise alert family members of a seizure) then, like “Princess” the dog will lay next to the person having the seizure to prevent injury to them during the seizure. This behavior of the dog will cause family members to call 911 and be there for their family member. Public interest in seizure assistance dogs has caused a demand for dogs with these special skills. I will be writing more about these incredible dogs, I hope to bring my followers to visit a location that trains Seizure Dogs and bring the interview live.

Have a great day, Don’t forget Talk about it, share the awareness.

Maria
